Iowa State University’s Beta Alpha Psi chapter has had a busy summer and fall. Eight executive board members, accompanied by advisor John Murphy, attended the Beta Alpha Psi national convention that was hosted in Baltimore, Maryland. The chapter was recognized as a Superior Chapter at the convention. In addition to opportunities to network, learn and compete, our executive team participated in Beta Alpha Psi’s International Day of Literacy (sponsored by KPMG and the KPMG Foundation) where they distributed books at Westport Academy and shared the importance of literacy. Prior to attending the national convention, the executive board also visited Washington D.C. for a tour of the U.S. Capitol and national monuments.
The chapter had a full program of weekly, and at times, twice-weekly meetings this fall, featuring speakers from a wide range of accounting professional roles. Their Meet the Firm event held in September had 42 firms in attendance and approximately 150 students attending. The chapter closed the semester with its fall banquet on November 29. Honorary member Ted Lodden, managing shareholder of Brooks Lodden, P.C. was the guest of honor and speaker at this event.
