Students will gain valuable real-life knowledge about the path to being a CEO when they attend the next College of Business CEO Speaker Series Tuesday, April 18, featuring Lance Fritz, Union Pacific chairman, president, and chief executive officer.
The event is free and open to the public.
During this first visit to Iowa State University, Fritz will talk about his path to becoming a CEO, share some common mistakes and opportunities for new managers, and then focus on international trade, and how trade grows jobs and investments. Attendees will have an opportunity to ask questions.
Having the CEO of Union Pacific here to meet with business students is a special opportunity, said Raisbeck Endowed Dean David Spalding
“We are grateful for the longstanding partnership between Union Pacific Railroad and Iowa State,” he said. “Union Pacific sets the standard as a model corporate partner, recruiting from a variety of majors across campus, including business. Union Pacific has experienced growth and success under Lance’s leadership. We look forward to having him connect with our students, faculty, and staff, and the Iowa State community.”
To connect business students with leading CEOs, Spalding created the CEO Speaker Series, which launched in October 2016.
“I’m excited about the momentum surrounding this new series,” Spalding said. “This is a unique opportunity for students that you don’t see in many business schools.”
The word has spread that students must come early, because the 300-seat lecture hall fills up quickly. The word has spread among CEOs, too.
“We’ve had many CEOs contact us and ask if they can be considered for a future event,” Spalding said. “That really says a lot about CEOs, that they would go out of their way to offer to speak with our students. We look forward to offering many more of these high-level events.”
