Iowa State University Business Week Activities September 17-21
The Iowa State University Ivy College of Business announces Business Week 2018, a week of activities designed for Ivy College of Business students and students who may be considering business as a major. There are a few new events this year:
Networking Night: in this workshop, students and employers will learn, engage, and practice networking skills, 5:00- 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 18, Campanile Room, Memorial Union.
Student Organization Showdown: Representatives from business student organizations will compete in fun and interactive competitions, with the winners earning money towards their student organization, Thursday, September 20, Campanile Room, Memorial Union.
The Ivy CEO Speaker Series will be held in conjunction with the Career Fair Breakfast this year. CEO and President of the Iowa Food Bank, Michelle Book, will speak to business students, faculty, staff and area employers who attend the career fair on September 26. The Ivy CEO Speaker Series creates opportunities where CEOs can connect with Ivy business students. Each lecture provides a forum where CEOs can share their path to the top, and inspire students who are preparing for their careers.
Additional activities during Business Week include coffee and snack breaks, a service project with Meals from the Heartland, and a “pitch your business” competition.
The purpose of Business Week is to celebrate and promote the college through professional development, corporate engagement, philanthropic efforts, and student appreciation in both a professional and social manner. In addition to the activities listed above, a speaker series takes place from September 17-25. Recruiters from a variety of industries will speak on networking, resume building, interview tips, and more.
Business Week is held each year just before the fall Business, Industry and Technology Career Fair at Hilton Coliseum, which will be Wednesday, September 26, from 12:00-5:00 p.m. at Hilton Coliseum. All students on campus are encouraged to attend the career fair, whether or not they currently need an internship or job.
“Business Week is a great opportunity for students to network with fellow students, business professionals, and faculty and staff,” said Raisbeck Endowed Dean David Spalding. “To date, 181 businesses have registered to have representatives at the career fair. I encourage all students to take advantage of the chance to make connections and learn about careers from these wonderful businesses.”
