The Ames Tribune reports on Ivy College of Business accounting and finance major Brandon Beecham’ research on college costs.

As tuition and student debt becomes a bigger topic around the world, one Iowa State University senior took the matter into his own hands to research why college is so expensive.

ISU accounting and finance major Brandon Beecham took the time during his final month in college to research that information.

“I really liked looking at financial statements. One day I just started looking at Iowa State’s financial statements,” he said. “Tuition was going up and (I was) just interested in why.”

His curiosity turned into his research based on the analysis of Iowa public university financials’ impact on tuition prices for Iowa State University, University of Iowa and University of Northern Iowa. The research spans from 1990 to 2017 in five-year intervals to track changes and trends.
