Meet the minds behind the Jack Trice Stadium MidAmerican Energy Field scoreboard graphic

The Lashier family thinks big.

How big? Take a look at that massive Jack Trice Stadium MidAmerican Energy Field scoreboard graphic proudly rising over the entrance of the Iowa State University football stadium. It was created by LRI Graphics, the large format printing company Bob Lashier (’84 management) launched in 2016 with his nephew, Andy Lashier (’98 finance), and son, Thomas Lashier (’11 management). Installation of this graphic involved more than 200 separate panels covering 5,000 square feet of space.

“Bringing big ideas to life is our passion,” said Bob. “We tell our clients that they are only limited by their imaginations. What do you want to do to promote your brand? How do you want to get your name out there? We’re ready to take on your big ideas and bring them to life.”

LRI Graphics has done many mega-graphic projects, but this one is special to the Lashiers, a devoted Cyclone family who are season ticket holders for football and basketball. They are also members of the Cyclone Club and Order of the Knoll.

“This project was close to our hearts,” said Thomas, director of graphics solutions for LRI Graphics. “We’ve spent a lot of time at Iowa State as students, as a family, and as die-hard fans. To have a small part in the game day experience is really fun.”

Bob’s big thinking started years ago and has been the inspiring force behind a successful business that has involved generations of his family. After earning his degree from Iowa State, he went to work for Xerox, which is a leader in the printer and copier industry. After several years as a Xerox sales rep, Bob decided he would like to run his own business. In 1991, he and two Xerox colleagues started Laser Resources Inc., which provides customers with high quality printing systems products, maintenance services, and technical support.

In 2015, Laser Resources was promoting new large format printers to clients and found that most wanted to outsource those jobs.

It was time to think big again.

“Large format printing was starting to evolve in the market and we recognized that offering this service would be of great value to our customers. With this in mind, we invested in the technology, people, and facilities needed to create LRI Graphics and began offering design, print, and installation of large format graphics,” said Bob. “It’s turned out to be a great complementary business to Laser Resources.”

LRI Graphics has the technology to print on just about anything – wood, glass, aluminum, even carpet. They also print on vinyl adhesive material that can be applied to almost any surface. The company has done extensive graphics projects around Jack Trice Stadium and Hilton Coliseum, as well as graphics for a variety of big athletic events in Des Moines, including the NCAA basketball tournament and Iowa High School Athletic Association tournaments. You also can see LRI Graphics at the Iowa State Fair and on Casey’s General Stores trucking fleet.

The Lashiers are proud of the companies they’ve built in their home state of Iowa. “Iowa State University has played a big role in our family’s success. We wouldn’t be where we are today without the business education we received while students at the Ivy College of Business,” said Bob.
