Conversation brings together Ivy students, faculty, and staff

More than 180 Ivy College of Business students, faculty, and staff participated in the college’s fourth annual Building Our Community conversation on February 20. The annual event is an opportunity for members of the Ivy community to learn from one another and identify ways to meet the college’s goal of continuous improvement in the areas of diversity and inclusion.

Students, faculty, and staff gathered for small group conversations centered around three themes: empowerment, personal development, and feeling welcome in the college. Facilitators in each group encouraged participants to think about times when they felt welcome and heard and to identify a defining moment at Iowa State that increased their potential. By the end of the event, almost 300 responses, written on colorful Post-it notes, filled six posters in Bergstrom Commons. The comments and ideas will be shared with the college’s Diversity Advisory Council and Raisbeck Endowed Dean David Spalding.

The Building Our Community event was sponsored by the Dean’s Office and co-hosted by two student organizations, Ivy Student Council and the Multicultural Business Network.
