Des Moines, Iowa — The fifth annual Business Analytics Symposium, hosted by the Debbie and Jerry Ivy College of Business at Iowa State University, will be held on April 7 in downtown Des Moines.

“This is the premier analytics event in Iowa,” said Raisbeck Endowed Dean David Spalding. “We have a great lineup of speakers who are on the cutting edge of analytics, and we’re excited to welcome keynote speakers whose expertise combines data analytics with two timely issues – sustainable agriculture and the 2020 Iowa caucuses.”

Elections expert and Iowa State University Political Science Professor Steffen W. Schmidt, will explore the 2020 Iowa caucus debacle, with a special emphasis on the caucus app failure, cybersecurity, and democracy. Schmidt will be joined by veteran political journalist Kathie Obradovich, Iowa editor-in-chief for the Iowa Capital Dispatch, for a conversation about the Iowa caucuses. Teddy Bekele, chief technology officer at Land O’Lakes, Inc., will discuss technology innovations driving the future of agriculture.

Schmidt is the Lucken Endowed Professor of Political Science and an expert on elections and cybersecurity. A frequent guest on political talk shows, he is the author of two books on identity theft and the co-author of the most widely used American government textbook, American Government and Politics Today, now in its 20th edition.

Bekele leads Land O’Lakes’ Ag Tech and IT organizations and is responsible for developing and implementing innovative technology solutions to help retailers and farmers produce more nutritious food while using fewer resources in new and sustainable ways. A $15 billion Fortune 200 company, Land O’Lakes is one of the nation’s largest food and agricultural cooperatives. Bekele’s application of technology and data to the practice of farming has shaped product offerings such as WinField United’s R7® Tool, Answer Tech, and ATLAS portal.
