The Iowa State University College of Business is hosting the second national summit aimed at focusing on the growing Hispanic population in the United States, and in particular, our business schools.

The ISU Building on Diversity Summit is designed to bring together business and higher education leaders to share and learn how to capitalize on opportunities created by this changing demographic. Current trends point with certainty to a culturally-diverse business school population and regional workforce (with Hispanic representations growing at a double-digit rate) developing over the next 20-25 years.

Business schools and related institutions will encounter intelligent and highly-motivated but diversely prepared students in its halls and classrooms. Many of them will be first generation students from Hispanic families.  Student success-to-graduation will be more important than ever as the U.S. economy continues to shift in its areas of strength and need. Businesses will look to higher education to provide business-ready managers and professionals.

The primary purpose of the Building on Diversity Summit is to encourage conversation and collaboration between business and higher education leaders, starting with a shared understanding of changes we can expect. This event brings together experts in areas such as population and societal trends, labor and product markets, education, and regional leaders who are already grappling with these topics.

Summit activities go beyond the sharing of knowledge. Participants will enjoy roundtable discussion between business and academic leaders. Short- term solutions will be developed. We seek to bridge the gap between policy and execution. We strive to reduce any divide that may exist between what business is doing and seeking, and what business schools are pursuing. We will end the day with actionable plans and realistic recommendations.

This event agenda is in progress, and will be updated as speakers are confirmed. Please check back with us often!
