Tips for Recruiter Career Fair Success

Welcome! Thank you for attending Iowa State University’s Business, Industry and Technology Career Fair! In an effort to make your day a success, please use these tips to enhance your recruiting experience at Iowa State University. Enjoy the day!

Accept paper resumes if possible

  • Please take time to review resumes with students and ask a few screening questions.
  • Help students understand the recruitment process and give a detailed explanation of your company’s website and how to apply online if applicable.
  • Computers will be available for student use during the Career Fair. You may direct students to the computers to complete online applications.

Be friendly and helpful to first and second year students

  • We encourage first and second year students to attend our career fair for career information, company exploration, internship seeking, and relationship building.
  • Please take into consideration they might be overwhelmed by the magnitude of the event. Invite them to your table to discuss their interests and your company needs.
  • A friendly encounter with a recruiter will be something they remember as they go through the job search process.
  • Remember that students learn about your company from the information that is entered in CyHire in advance of the Career Fair.

Please note:

  • Lunch will be served from 11:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Please look for directional signage to Johnnys on the upper-east concourse of Hilton Coliseum.
  • An Employer Reception with appetizers and beverages will be held following the career fair at 5:00 p.m. in Johnnys on the upper-east concourse of Hilton Coliseum.
  • Student Ambassadors will be available throughout the day to assist with questions and needs.
  • Before you leave, turn in interview schedules to the Career Services booth if you are participating in Interview Day.
