  • Students who have previously earned a degree and have returned for a second major in business should contact the Undergraduate Programs Office in 1200 Gerdin to have their name appear in the program.

Student Speaker Application

The convocation ceremony features brief remarks from a student speaker reflecting on their time at Iowa State and their Ivy experience. To apply to be the student speaker, submit this application form and your resume to slyndon@iastate.edu, and then sign up for an audition time.

The application deadline has been extended to Thursday, November 21. You can submit the application form first and then write your speech. Auditions will take place on Monday, December 2.

Your remarks should address your experience in the Ivy College of Business, your time at Iowa State, and what you are taking with you as you leave Iowa State (in addition to a diploma). Speeches should be 5-8 minutes in length, and the content should be applicable to both undergraduate and graduate students.

Arriving at Hilton Coliseum

Students must arrive at Hilton Coliseum by 3:15 p.m. Please check in at the northwest corner of Hilton to pick up your reader card. You will be instructed where to line up (signs will be posted by major). If you are a double major/degree, you may choose which major you would like to sit/cross the stage with. Leave coats, purses, and other valuables with family or friends.

Students and their guests will have their bags searched upon arrival at Hilton Coliseum.

Crossing the Stage

Degree candidates will be recognized by major. If you are a double major or multiple degree student, you will be recognized only once. Student marshals will lead the candidates to the foot of the stage. Candidates will present their reader cards to the reader, and each candidate will cross the stage to be recognized by the dean as their name is read.

Accessible parking is located on the west side of Hilton Coliseum, in Lot B2. The accessible entrance is on the west side of Hilton Coliseum and offers elevator access to all levels of Hilton. Special seating accommodations for guests are available on the concourse level on a first come, first serve basis.
