Iowa Confluence Water Trails (ICON) is a transformational quality-of-life initiative aimed at connecting more than 150 miles of waterways across Central Iowa. With 15 active regional sites and construction underway on its signature downtown whitewater attractions, ICON is well on its way to turning that vision into reality. ICON’s priorities include on-water safety, environmental conservation, economic development, workforce and tourism attraction, and access to recreation. About the speakers

Monica Converse is an Iowa native who grew up canoeing rivers in northeast Iowa. Monica graduated from Iowa State University in 2007 with a degree in civil engineering and spent the first 15 years of her career in consulting civil engineering. She then served as executive director of the Polk City Chamber and Economic Development Corporation.

Monica joined ICON in March 2023 as a project manager focused on bringing the downtown ICON sites to fruition. She is excited to create opportunities for central Iowans to engage more with our waterways.

Cole Miller is an Illinois native who moved to Iowa three years ago. Cole graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville with a bachelor of science in health and human performance. After graduation, he spent five years in Illinois as a parks director.

Having been with ICON for two years now as the regional coordinator, Cole’s duties include servicing all jurisdictions outside of Des Moines in the ICON network, and making sure they have the opportunities to bring their respective ICON sites online.
