Iowa State University and the Journal of the Association of Consumer Research (JACR) will co-sponsor a two-hour virtual workshop, “How to approach doing racism and discrimination research,” from 10 a.m.-12:00 p.m. CST on Tuesday, January 19.
This important workshop precedes the upcoming JACR special issue on Racism and Discrimination in the Marketplace, co-edited by Jerome Williams, Distinguished Professor and the Prudential Chair in Business in the Rutgers Business School-Newark and New Brunswick; Samantha Cross, associate professor of marketing in the Debbie and Jerry Ivy College of Business at Iowa State University; and Stephanie Dellande, professor emerita of marketing at Menlo College in Atherton, California.
Panelists will present the challenges, landmines, and best practices of conducting research on racism and discrimination issues in the marketplace. The first hour will focus on racism-oriented research, moderated by Jerome Williams. Panelists will include four eminent scholars in this area: Sonya Grier, David Crockett, Sterling Bone, and Kevin Thomas. Discussions in the second hour will focus on discrimination-oriented research, moderated by Stephanie Dellande. Distinguished panelists include David Wooten, Ron Hill, Madhu Viswanathan, and Stacy Finkelstein. Links to the panelists’ profiles are available below.
The workshop is targeted to new and established researchers interested in conducting research in this domain.
