Want to be responsible for the financial health of an organization? Do you want to manage income and expenses to keep an organization profitable? A finance major at the Ivy College of Business will teach you how to make the most of financial markets, manage risk, grow assets, and serve the diverse needs of shareholders, partners, and employees. Our professors will help you develop the skills you’ll need to correctly advise an individual or company on how they can gain capital. If you’re pursuing an advanced degree, the Master of Finance program is designed to prepare you for careers in corporate finance, financial analysis, investing, and wealth and risk management. Graduates go on to pursue diverse careers in banking, insurance, real estate, and all types of financial management.

Finance Speaker Series

The Department of Finance at Iowa State University hosts periodic research seminars and invites top finance scholars as our guest speakers to present their research. Our research workshops also allow faculty members to explore their own research in the form of brownbag presentations. The seminar series provides a forum for faculty members, graduate students, and invited guest speakers to present and discuss cutting edge research in all areas in finance.

Finance Major

The Finance major teaches students how to make the most of financial markets, successfully raise capital, manage risk, grow assets, and serve the diverse needs of shareholders, partners, and employees.  Graduates pursue diverse careers in banking, investing, security analysis, insurance, government, real estate, and all types of financial management.

Business Economics Major

Where business studies the organizations and functions that deliver goods and services to customers, economics studies those goods and services with respect to production, distribution, and consumption, and the choices we make about how to best utilize the resources we have.

Actuarial Science Major

Actuarial science is the discipline that applies financial, mathematical, and statistical methods to assess risk in insurance, finance, and other industries and professions.  Our curriculum is designed to prepare you with the knowledge base and skills in finance. mathematics, and statistics needed to pass up to five actuarial exams, so you’ll be career-ready when you graduate.

Master of Finance (MFin)

The Master of Finance (MFin) degree at Iowa State is designed to prepare students for careers in corporate finance, financial analysis, investing and wealth management, and risk management. As the field of Finance has become more quantitative, employers are increasingly asking for and valuing hard analytical skills.

Master of Real Estate Development (MRED)

Students in the Master of Real Estate Development (MRED) program will receive graduate training in real estate market analysis, business finance, fundamentals of the built environment and urban planning with an emphasis on current trends and innovations.
