At the heart of the Ivy College of Business MBA experience is a team of faculty who bring world-class expertise, industry insight, and a genuine passion for developing future leaders. Our core faculty represent a variety of disciplines, including management, finance and accounting, supply chain, information systems, economics, and marketing. Each professor brings a unique career path and research perspective to the classroom, enriching the Ivy MBA curriculum with real-world relevance and discussion-driven learning. Meet the faculty who help guide, challenge, and elevate our full-time and online MBA students.

  • Melissa ChamberlinMelissa Chamberlin

    Associate professor, Department of Management and Entrepreneurship

    She earned her BA in history from the University of Utah, her MA in social sciences from the University of Chicago, and her PhD in business management with a concentration in organizational behavior from Arizona State University. Before academia, she managed a large nonprofit organization, a role that fueled her curiosity about workplace relationships, leadership, and team dynamics. At Ivy, she values the supportive, forward-thinking environment and is passionate about engaging with MBA students, whose energy and drive inspire her. Chamberlin’s research examines inclusion and participation in the workplace — critical issues as organizations strive to foster engagement and belonging in today’s climate. In her courses, she challenges students to become thoughtful, critical thinkers and to resist shortcuts in leadership and decision-making. Outside the classroom, she is a lifelong swimmer who competed at the Division I level and continues to enjoy the sport today.

  • Rui-ChenRui Chen

    Dean’s Fellow in Information Systems and professor, Department of Information Systems and Business Analytics

    He earned his BS in computer science in China, his MS in computer science at Southern Illinois University Carbondale, and his PhD in management science and systems from SUNY Buffalo. After working in IT in China, he pursued graduate studies in the United States and ultimately chose an academic career. At Ivy, Chen appreciates working with highly motivated MBA students and helping them connect business goals with technology. His research focuses on cybersecurity and information privacy — critical challenges in today’s business environment. In the classroom, he emphasizes aligning IT services with organizational objectives to drive growth. Beyond academia, Chen is a wildlife photographer and runs Lenswild.com to share his work.

  • Mike-HowardMike Howard

    Hilsinger-Janson Professor, Department of Management and Entrepreneurship

    He earned his BS in aeronautical and astronautical engineering and MBA in finance from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, followed by a PhD in technology entrepreneurship from the University of Washington. His career journey has taken him from factory automation and corporate finance at Intel — where he tracked multi-billion-dollar forecasts for the Pentium II microprocessor — to academia, where he now researches knowledge flows, technology transfer, and innovation networks. Howard values Ivy’s environment for both independent research and student engagement, and he finds MBA students particularly inspiring for their energy, curiosity, and dedication. In his courses, he encourages evidence-based decision-making, context-driven strategy, and network thinking to help students navigate technological disruption and digital transformation. Fun fact: as an undergraduate, he helped design a nuclear thermal rocket mission to Mars.

  • Tyler-JensenTyler Jensen

    Associate professor, Department of Finance

    He earned his BS in finance from the University of Nebraska and his PhD in finance from the University of Utah. Drawn to academia by a love of research and teaching, he values Ivy’s unique balance of world-class scholarship and strong student engagement. His research explores how macroeconomic forces, particularly Federal Reserve policy, influence corporate behavior and stock prices — a topic especially relevant in today’s shifting economic climate. In the MBA classroom, Jensen emphasizes critical thinking in financial decision-making, preparing students to adapt to real-world uncertainty and explain their solutions to stakeholders. Outside of work, he enjoys coaching youth sports, having led 11 different teams in the past year.

  • Sungham (Sam) LeeSunghan (Sam) Lee

    Associate professor, Department of Accounting

    He earned his BBA from Seoul National University, his MBA from Southern Methodist University, and his PhD in accounting from the University of Southern California. He began his academic career at the University of Illinois at Chicago before joining the Ivy College of Business in 2014, where he has contributed to building the college’s strong reputation in accounting scholarship. Passionate about teaching, Lee finds it rewarding to mentor MBA students, who he praises for their curiosity, accountability, and discipline. In his classes, he emphasizes accounting as a practical, engaging tool for managerial decision-making — aiming to shift students’ perspective from viewing accounting as dry to seeing it as insightful and intellectually stimulating. Outside of the classroom, Lee enjoys playing tennis and golf, and he also holds the unique distinction of earning two MBA degrees.

  • Junyan-ShenJunyan Shen

    Adjunct associate professor, Department of Finance

    He earned his BS in mechanical engineering from Fudan University in Shanghai, his master’s in applied math and statistics from the University of Minnesota Duluth, and his PhD in finance from the University of Minnesota. Since joining Iowa State in 2016, Shen has combined his expertise in finance and statistics to teach business statistics (BUSAD 5020) in the MBA program. He values the diverse experiences MBA students bring to the classroom, which enrich discussions and spark new ideas, and he finds it rewarding to support their professional growth. Shen’s research applies statistical methods to financial challenges, such as developing predictive signals for investment and analyzing managers’ sentiment in earnings calls to uncover insights into firm strategy and risk. In his teaching, he emphasizes statistical thinking as a practical tool for data-driven decision-making. Outside of work, Shen enjoys pop music, swimming with his daughter, and listening to podcasts like Planet Money and Barron’s Streetwise, which he sometimes integrates into his classes.

  • Henrik-SternbergHenrik Sternberg

    Associate professor, Department of Supply Chain Management

    He earned his BA in informatics and his MS in supply chain management from Chalmers University of Technology in Sweden. Driven by lifelong curiosity, he has blended industry and academia throughout his career, working as a consultant with Cambridge Technology Partners before pursuing a PhD and joining the Ivy College of Business, home to one of the world’s top-ranked supply chain management (SCM) programs. Sternberg enjoys the motivation MBA students bring to the classroom and takes pride in coaching Ivy’s SCM case study team, which recently placed second nationally and won $10,000. His research tackles real-world problems, from projects that influenced transportation laws in 27 countries to current work on service and maintenance optimization. Ranked among the top 10 scholars worldwide in SCM research productivity, Sternberg emphasizes holistic thinking, interdependencies, and win-win solutions in his teaching. International in both work and life, he has lived in multiple countries and speaks several languages, including English, Swedish, German, and Italian.

  • Marv-Wilson Marv Wilson

    Lecturer, Department of Marketing

    He holds both a BS in agricultural business and an MBA from Iowa State University. His professional career spanned sales, product management, marketing leadership, and strategic business development, including serving as a marketing director and leading corporate strategy teams before retiring and returning to teach at his alma mater. At Ivy, Wilson values the chance to help students connect marketing principles with real-world business challenges. He especially enjoys working with MBA students for their eagerness to engage and learn, and he hopes they leave his classes with a clear sense of what it means to be a marketing and business professional. Outside the classroom, Wilson enjoys motorcycling and is grateful for the opportunity to share his experience with the next generation of leaders.

  • Darin-WohlgemuthDarin Wohlgemuth

    Teaching professor, Department of Economics,
    College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences

    He brings a unique mix of analytical expertise and institutional insight to the Ivy College of Business. A first-generation college graduate, Wohlgemuth began his academic journey at Hesston College and the University of Kansas before earning his master’s and PhD in economics from Iowa State University. His path to academia started unexpectedly after a conversation with a professor who introduced him to the world of graduate assistantships.

    Throughout his career at Iowa State, Wohlgemuth has held key leadership roles, including leading the Enrollment Research Team and serving as vice president for budget and planning. In these roles, he helped shape tuition policy, enrollment strategy, and the university’s budget model. Since transitioning to full-time teaching in the Department of Economics, he has found his passion in the classroom, especially working with MBA students whose professional experiences enrich class discussions.

    Wohlgemuth’s research and teaching focus on using economic principles to inform strategic decision-making, particularly in higher education. He encourages MBA students to critically evaluate data and understand how economics connects to every aspect of business. Outside the classroom, Wohlgemuth enjoys visiting national parks, canning produce from his family garden, and he recently celebrated becoming a grandfather.
