June kicks off the beginning of new student Orientation, where incoming Iowa State University students get the opportunity to visit campus and familiarize themselves with campus, academic programs, residence halls, and involvement opportunities before starting classes in the fall. This is a time to welcome these new students to campus as they work through the transition from high school to university life.
Each two-day session is designed to help students feel welcome and start adjusting to college life while also meeting other students.
Diann Burright, director of Undergraduate Student Services for the Ivy College of Business, said, “Orientation is a time of excitement, anticipation, and a bit of anxiousness for what lies ahead – for both students and their families. Students are eager to move into their next educational journeys and are excited to become Cyclones. Our student services team gets to soak in their energy and excitement as we help them build and navigate their initial academic plans for fall.”
“Being a Cyclone Aide means helping new students feel supported and welcomed, like they’ve found a second home at Iowa State. It’s about making their orientation truly special while showing the endless opportunities and student life at the Ivy College of Business.”

Welcoming new Ivy students
This year, the Undergraduate Student Services office has been working to welcome and register around 1,200 new students to Ivy and Iowa State, starting with transfer orientations in April. The Ivy College of Business will host 10 OnCyte Orientation sessions for incoming fall 2025 first-year students. These sessions range from 85 to 95 students each, plus their family members and other guests. Along with these in-person sessions, Ivy academic advisors will also host virtual orientation sessions for new first-year and transfer students from July to August.
The Ivy College of Business is proud to welcome new students and be a part of their continued academic success. Their relationship with Ivy began with the college’s recruitment team long before Orientation. That relationship is essential for helping students navigate their path to becoming a Cyclone.
After working with recruiters to apply, new students meet a team of Cyclone Aides, current undergraduate student leaders, who are ready to welcome them. Cyclone Aides are the first to be in contact with incoming students at Orientation, so having a warm welcome is crucial to students as they attend orientation sessions.
Alex Harrison, a Cyclone Aide and sophomore majoring in management information systems, said, “Being a Cyclone Aide means helping new students feel supported and welcomed, like they’ve found a second home at Iowa State. It’s about making their orientation truly special while showing the endless opportunities and student life at the Ivy College of Business.”
