Test Waiver Guide – GMAT

All full-time MBA and concurrent MBA program applications require a GMAT test score unless approved for a waiver. If a waiver is approved, applicants may apply without a GMAT test score. If a waiver is not approved, a GMAT score is required with your application.

What is Done in a Day?

Done in a Day is a day where prospective, concurrent MBA students will be immersed into the Ivy College of Business culture, understanding what it’s like to be an MBA student at Iowa State University. MBA Ambassadors will act as mentors for the day, taking prospective students on a college tour and guiding them through a networking breakfast with current students and faculty members. There will be information sessions on tuition and assistance, professional career guidance, and an MBA alumni panel where students can better understand the offerings and benefits of the MBA program. The day will conclude with an official admissions interview. Within 24 hours, if the prospective student meets all requirements, they will be granted admission with eligibility for a scholarship(s) and/or graduate assistantship for their upcoming first year.

Who should consider applying without a test score?

Our admissions committee evaluates applications using a holistic approach, which includes reviewing current GPA, internship experience, career goals, references and academic rigor and involvement. It is recommended that concurrent MBA waiver applicants have a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher. You should choose whether or not you want to request a waiver based on your individual circumstances. Test scores do provide an additional data point in determining academic readiness.

Are there any circumstances in which it might be helpful to submit test scores?

If you have taken the GMAT and feel that submitting a test score will strengthen your application, we encourage you to submit it as it will be considered as part of the admissions decision.

Additionally, students who take the GMAT and earn a total GMAT score of 620 will automatically receive a $500 GMAT scholarship. If you receive a GMAT waiver, you will not be eligible for the $500 GMAT scholarship.

When will I hear whether my waiver has been approved?

In general, you will be notified by the admissions team of the decision within one business day after submitting the request.

Will I still be eligible for scholarships and assistantships if I waive the test?

Yes. Assistantships and scholarships are based on a number of factors, including test scores, academic performance, prior work/internship experience, leadership potential, and interview feedback.

If I am denied a test waiver, does that imply that I may not be accepted when I submit my application?

No. It means you will need to submit a GRE or GMAT score with your application. We will consider your entire application, including your GRE or GMAT score, and make a decision based on that assessment.
